About Me
This is the personal blog of Chris Beck, a long-time webpreneur who toils away at the computer all day, and most nights. Chris will now switch to a first-person narrative, since we all know it is he who is actually writing this.
I began this particular blog originally as “Bloggin Old School,” which was a vague reference to the fact that I began blogging in 1995, before blogs were cool. However, over the years I have found that after spending 12 hours a day slinging code, my will to keep up the blog had severely diminished. I love reading blogs personally, and I actually do enjoy writing them as well. I contribute articles fairly regularly to the Netphase blog, Set Your Phasers to Stun. But those are mostly business articles, and not terribly creative.
So, after a fairly long hiatus, the creative blogging bug had bitten me again. And true to form, I wrote a few articles, then got too busy working on development projects again. But, I am nothing if not stubborn, so today I am rededicating this blog to you, my interested reader. I will attempt to bring you my observations on Football, RVing, Geek stuff, and anything else that tickles my fancy.
We’ll see how that goes
About me, for real this time
I am actually a 41-year-old web developer from Charlotte who got the opportunity to cut his consulting teeth (and many other things) in Silicon Valley back in the late 90’s. While that is not too out of the ordinary (or even particularly exciting), I do have some really good stories surrounding my family’s move out there, as well as some video of kids doing embarrassing things, pictures of guys drinking beer on the edge of gorge of eternal peril, and a healthy collection of ill-advised web sites that I want to share with you.
With any luck, all of life’s little distractions will leave me alone long enough for me to post some of these gems.
I currently live in the Charlotte area with my wife of 16 years (Carrie), my children (Haley, 12; Dawson, 9; and Joshua, 8), two cats, and a boat-load of unfinished projects. Carrie homeschools the kids, and I try to keep her sane. Occasionally, I succeed.
I am the technical producer of The Big Deal, play really bad guitar, and enjoy camping in our RV. Ok, so my guitar is not that bad, but the rest of it is true. I swear!
I own a thriving consulting company, specializing in websites built in Ruby on Rails and iPhone App development. We do a lot of other things, too, but that is what we hang our hats on.
Other than that, there is not much to tell. Well, on this page at least! I am never short of opinions, stories, comments others wish I would keep to myself, and occasionally snide remarks. I do love football, college basketball, Seinfeld reruns and Survivor; so I really never run out of goofy things to talk about.
Feel free to drop me a line or post comments on any of my posts. If I don’t like them, I will probably delete them, but at least you can say you tried!
