Dusting Off The Blog
Posted on 13. Feb, 2009 by Chris in Football Rants, Geek Life
So a couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine informed me that I had been spending too much time on Facebook and my blog was in fact getting a little… dusty. Pardon me, but I wasn’t aware anyone was even looking at the blog, let alone tracking how often I post. I mean, my own mother doesn’t even visit, but that is probably because I haven’t given her the URL. But I digress…
So, let’s get everyone caught up to speed. What have I been up to the last few weeks? Well, first, I worked sound for a benefit rock concert on Saturday, January 31st. Trisonic and Sitka performed, and the show was off the hook! Thankfully, my sound engineering did not get in the way
Lots of positive feedback on that one, and we raised a ton (two actually) of food for the Second Harvest Food Bank.
Then, there was the Super Bowl. I know many of you are disappointed that I did not reveal my pick here before the game. But the oddsmakers in Vegas asked me to keep my opinions to myself, what with my stellar prediction record and all. For the record, I did pick the Steelers, which will not come as a shock since I have been wearing the Black and Gold since I was 5. I mean, I actually own a Bubby Brister jersey, Ok? Enough said there.
What, don’t believe me? Here’s proof: a conversation I had with my friend Buck, who for some obscure reason is a Cardinals fan. He grew up in Charlotte and lives in Atlanta, so your guess on how that originated is as good as mine. Here is the entire conversation, unedited (read from bottom to top for the full effect):
There, see? Ok, so I was slightly off on the score. But I’ll take the win just the same.
Over the last couple of weeks, I have been working on several fronts. First, the day job has been keeping me really busy, but I am cranking out some really cool code and getting heavy into metaprogramming, or allowing my code to write more code. Very cool stuff.
My consulting company picked up a new client, which is always good. We will reveal more about that project soon as we are close to launch (should be next month some time). And finally, I have been a graphic design fiend, slinging all kinds of interface niceness for Carrie’s homeschool site vision, Homeschool Apple. Below is the logo, and here is a link to the screen shots. I hope you like them. I think it is some of my best work.
And finally, I have been recently attending Renovatus, a church for people under renovation. They have had some really interesting happenings over the last few weeks. One thing I got to do which I had never done before was participate in a 24 hour, 7 day prayer week. We each took turns pulling one hour shifts at 24-7, a super-hip prayer facility and ministry here in Charlotte. I actually pulled two, because Carrie was sick and unable to make hers.
What started off as me thinking I was doing something nice for her ended up being a totally blessing to me. I really enjoy 24-7. So much so, I told them today that I would volunteer up there. You should check it out if you want to enjoy a little solitude (which was one of the points Jonathan made in his sermon last week, so it shows I AM still teachable…)
In the coming weeks I will have a chance to particpate in the Justice Project, which is taking a disadvantaged neighborhood in West Charlotte and doing a full-court press on it from March until the end of the year. There are a ton of opportunities to serve. It should be very, very cool.
Aside from all this stuff about me, the fam has been battling some illnesses, the kids are doing the usual boat-load of activities, and Carrie is just trying to keep it all rolling. I think I got the easy job
Now you are up to speed. Check back soon. Or better yet, hit me up on Facebook, twitter, or just leave a comment here and let me know you are out there. Later!
PS - Did I mention Carolina kicked that dook butt last night? Sweeeet….

Just to clarify, I’m not really a Cardinals fan. I was simply of the opinion they were going to win. I admit I was pulling for them, but only so I could give Chris grief if his Steelers lost. And in all honesty, it was the end of the first half, not the second, that secured the win for the Steelers. But hopefully my Falcons will be back in the hunt next season…!
